Lodi is a small city located in San Joaquin County, in the northern portion of California's Central Valley. The population is estimated at about 65,000.

Best known for being a center of winegrape production often called the "Zinfandel Capital of the World". Through the years its vintages have been considered less prestigious than those of Napa and Sonoma valleys. In recent years, the Lodi Appellation has become increasingly respected for its Zinfandel and other eclectic wine varietals, along with its focus on sustainability. National recognition came with the "2015 Wine Region of the Year" award given to Lodi by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. In nearby Woodbridge, is another well-known winery, Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi. Robert Mondavi grew up here in Lodi, and the Mondavi Winery is considered one of the most influential in the American wine industry.

A couple of other things Lodi is famous are. First, came from the Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Lodi", even though many people say the name of the song is "Stuck In Lodi Again", from the lyrics. And second, as being the birthplace of A&W Root Beer. The first batch that was ever made was in 1919. Was sold during a parade off of a hot dog cart. Today it is nationwide brand and is sold in cans and bottles throughout the United States. They also have a franchise chain of restaurants worldwide.

A small plaque set into a sidewalk marks the site of Roy W. Allen's first roadside root beer stand, which opened on June 20, 1919. Roy had bought his top-secret formula from a pharmacist in Arizona, who claimed he had perfected the recipe for root beer. Allen sold the concoction for a nickel a frosty mug. An A&W near the plaque, located at 13 Pine Street, Lodi, CA, features displays of company memorabilia and still offers curbside service.
